TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION - REVIEW

Image
The fourth film in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series comes with an unlikely cast and a brand new bunch of psychos, though we do get a Leatherface of sorts. No Texas Chainsaw Massacre film has been quite as heavily panned as this one: barely anyone saw it and the few who did didn't like it. The Next Generation (originally released as The Return Of The Chainsaw Massacre ) sees a new bunch of teenagers driving off into the middle of nowhere before meeting up with a bizarre bunch of nuts. The Slaughters (that family's actual name lol) are led by Vilmer, a demented truck-drivin' Matthew McConaughey on full force complete with remote-controlled artificial leg and sadistic tendencies. Here's a guy who's not shy about having a major screw loose. He takes his time, savouring his victims' every scream and since he's not a cannibal (pizza's more his thing) like that other bunch of loons, his motivation is pretty much motivated by cruelty alone. Oh, also I

THE WHOLE NINE YARDS - REVIEW

Image
Here's one you might have forgotten: The Whole Nine Yards , starring Matthew Perry and Bruce Willis as a stressed-out dentist and a dangerous hitman neighbour respectively (duh). Basically Willis' Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski moves in next door to some dentist with a shitty life and an odious wife (played like a Tex Avery cartoon character by Rosanna Arquette) and poor old Chandler gets sucked into a complex plot he wasn't quite ready for. The rest of the cast includes the ever reliable Michael Clarke Duncan, Amanda Peet (her breasts also), Kevin Pollak and Harland Williams in a fun cameo. It's a good bunch and the great chemistry between all these characters is what really holds the movie together. The plot's a bit of a mess and isn't particularly memorable but it's more about the ride than anything else. Your enjoyment of this little cult comedy will depend on how you feel about Matthew Perry's typical slapstick persona because, be warned

LOST SEASON 3 - REVIEW

Image
Now this is what I'm talking about! After a frankly dull first season and an uneven (if promising) second here we finally have a focused, genuinely well-made, wholly entertaining season which benefits from being a little darker and a little less all about that boring old beach we've grown so accustomed to! It's an island. There's sand. We get it. Again, a lot of the wrongs of season 1 are put right and now the show finally finds itself with not only a great villain, dodgy "Other" leader Benjamin Linus, but interesting main characters you actually do care about (...and Kate). Everyone's backstories are fleshed out a bit more and interlinked with each other in clever ways, characters face real conflicts and have an immediate purpose. This time, these guys are shown no mercy. Long gone are the days when Charlie would worry about peanut butter, long gone are the boring "lets-all-sit-around!" episodes: no, this is the season where the smo
