TOP 30 REASONS WHY JUSTICE LEAGUE IS THE BEST COMIC-BOOK MOVIE

Image
A while back, I reviewed the Justice League movie and I wasn't too kind to it. In fact, I was the opposite of kind to it: I was unkind in a big way. After giving the film a couple of re-watchings, I now realize I was wrong and I feel like I understand the movie a lot better now. There were countless things I missed, misunderstood or flat-out lied about so consider this list a re-review and please ignore my initial take on Justice League as it was unfair, silly and wrong. I finally learned to fully appreciate the film's qualities and rethink a lot of the problems I had with the film because they weren't real problems at all. I firmly believe that Justice League is the best comic-book movie ever made and here's why: 30 SOCRATES Famous philosopher Socrates once said: " There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance.".   I have never seen a reviewer make this connection but this quote is at the very core of the Justice League mov

JUSTICE LEAGUE - REVIEW

Image
Plagued with a last minute change in director as Joss Whedon took over from Zack Snyder after a tragic event, significant reshoots and a pesky, unshavable super-moustache, Justice League finally gets its official release and the reviews, so far, have been rather mixed, to say the least. Marvel certainly made it look easy when they introduced us to a whole bunch of newly portrayed superheroes on the big screen then skilfully made them interact with each other. The Avengers , it turns out, was something of a mini-miracle. DC's approach to crossovers had proven shaky prior to Justice League with Wonder Woman being shoehorned into Batman V Superman before the character even got her own movie. This new film promised epic action sequences, an entertaining dynamic between all the characters and several surprises like the glorious return of Superman. On their own, there's not too much wrong with these characters: Ben Affleck makes a good Batman, Gal Gadot does a decent job as Wo

SUICIDE SQUAD - REVIEW

Image
Batman V Superman may not have been the runaway success DC was hoping for but, bad reviews aside, it's looking like Suicide Squad might just be their best bet yet with fans praising the film left and right, defending it defiantly. The promise of a dysfunctional team of villains working for the good guys in a colourful, violent adventure like no other with a brand new Joker and a live-action Harley Quinn thrown in certainly sounded promising and more fun than Zack Snyder's recent output. The good news is that Suicide Squad is like the anti- Man Of Steel : fast, wacky, cartoonish, playful, it constantly aims to entertain and, very often, it does just that. More good news is the cast mostly works with Margot Robbie clearly having a great time with her portrayal of cosplayer favourite Harley Quinn, Will Smith getting all the best lines and Jai Courtney almost stealing the show in a career-best turn as Captain Boomerang. You can also expect some nifty cameos from certain supe

JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE FLASHPOINT PARADOX - REVIEW

Image
While the new The Flash series have done relatively well, this is a character often dismissed as limited in terms of what powers he has and the fact that most of his villains sound like B-side Batman rogues doesn't help. With animated feature  Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox , we finally get proof that there are excellent Flash stories out there and that the latter most definitely earns his place as part of the iconic superteam. The Flashpoint Paradox opens with Reverse-Flash (voiced by C. Thomas Howell) setting a trap for Barry Allen (voiced by Justin Chambers) involving a whole bunch of rogues, some gooey mud and loads of bombs set to go off and destroy Central City. Luckily, the rest of the Justice League jump in and save the day. Very soon, however, Barry Allen starts to realise that something has changed around him: familiar villains have slightly different names, his mother's alive and a world war is brewing. As it turns out, by saving his mother and changi

JUSTICE LEAGUE: WAR - REVIEW

Image
The Justice League comes together in this animated feature which sees the likes of Batman, Green Lantern, Superman and Wonder Woman join forces to take down Darkseid and his army of mutants who are planning to invade the Earth using portals. If that sounds familiar it's because this is essentially the plot of the first Avengers movie. Swap Loki for Darkseid and it's basically the same deal except with DC characters. Which isn't a bad way to go, frankly, since it gives us an early glimpse at what the Justice League live-action movie could potentially look like, with added Zack Snyder foggy CGI, of course. The film kicks off with Batman investigating strange abductions in Gotham City as Green Lantern shows up to help and they are soon off to Metropolis to get Superman's take on the alien technology they picked up from one of the Parademons. Following an accident involving an alien box found by The Flash in Central City, a football player is turned into Cyborg and h
